The Benefits of Pineapple

Pineapples are still very much in season YAY, and today, we’d like to highlight some of this delicious fruit’s health benefits.  We are crazy about good food here are Good Food Emporium and embracing food as medicine is something we are so passionate about.  We would love for others to love the food as medicine approach too, so lets jump into the benefits of pineapple.

INFLAMMATION

Pineapple has a special enzyme called bromelain.  Bromelain has shown to be highly anti-inflammatory and especially so when there is also pain associated with this inflammation.  Think of muscle strains or sprains; inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis and even conditions such as sinusitis and period pain.

If you suffer any of the above, try including a good few slices of pineapple everyday.  Ladies, if you suffer from period pain, then try to also eat a good few slices or pineapple in the five days leading up to your first day of menstruation.  The bromelain in pineapple will downregulate the inflammatory processes in the body and hence reduce the severity of menstrual cramps.

DIGESTION

Due to having a high number of enzymes, pineapple has the ability to aid digestion.  Eating pineapple in the morning, on an empty stomach, could set you up for great digestion for your next meal.  Alternatively, try eating some pineapple about 15-20 minutes before a main meal. Additionally, enzymes as a whole are incredibly important for the body.  Enzymes are required for almost every process in the body.  The more enzymes we eat (as found in raw, uncooked fruits and vegetables), the better.

Have you tried our organic pineapples?  They are so juicy, sweet and delicious!  We love that eating pineapples is a win-win situation as they are both tasty and healthy.
